On December 15, 2024, the New Mexico Public Health Association (NMPHA) hosted its 21st Annual Health Policy Forum, "Speak For Health And Wellness," bringing together community leaders, public health professionals, and advocates dedicated to advancing health equity in New Mexico. This year’s forum featured a dynamic agenda, including an inspiring keynote address by Dr. Carrie Shaver, who highlighted innovative approaches to addressing health disparities and the importance of community-driven solutions. A key highlight was a thought-provoking panel discussion on the intersection of philanthropy and public health. Panelists included:
Dr. Bill Wagner, founder of Centro Sávila, was another featured speaker who provided a compelling community perspective, sharing his extensive experience working with communities in Albuquerque’s South Valley. The forum also featured a powerful session on advancing health equity through public health, social justice, and education in New Mexico. Representative-Elect Dr. Elizabeth Torres-Velasquez (District 30) and Teresa Madrid, Partnership for Community Action, led this discussion, emphasizing legislative priorities and grassroots advocacy to drive systemic change. Additionally, the Elected Officials panel offered robust discussions on legislative opportunities to align public policy with community health needs. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all speakers, attendees, and sponsors for making this year’s forum a resounding success. Together, we continue to build a healthier, more equitable New Mexico! |
